Day 41 - Palma, Mallorca, Spain

08/04/2014

Another beautiful day, and another picturesque port. Once again we have an excursion booked to try to keep us out of trouble. We selected the Best of Palma tour as it gave us a sample of different aspects of this lovely island. First we visited Bellver Castle which is high on a hill, it was round which is unusual. We walked around inside while the tour guide pointed out important aspects. The ground floor had a courtyard in the middle with a well and statues placed around under the awning. The second floor looked out over the courtyard and we were able to look into two rooms before going up one more level to the roof. Here she pointed out the Kings residence when he is in town and the place where Diana stayed when in town. She also advised that this was were Rafael Nadal grew up. Next we went to a Spanish village which had interesting architecture. Next stop was a large 13th century gothic style cathedral. The guide took us through the Cathedral and explain some of the styling and restoration work. We then saw the Almudaina Palace, an ancient residence of Moorish kings and later the Royal House for the King and Queen of Mallorca.

Our second last port on this trip and it was over so quickly. Back on the ship we joined in the sail away party. Lots of singing, dancing and cheering. Time for a rest before dinner. Gareth Oliver is again the after dinner show and we have all managed to convince Kay that he is worth seeing as there is limited work with dummies in his show. Once again he was hysterical, so much so that Christine bought his DVD. After the show we hit the pokies, the Belvedere then up to the Crows Nest for the Quiz with our fellow table mates. Tonight Paul, the cheeky Irishman hosted the quiz. We did our usual cheering whether we got the answer right or not. Paul asked about an artist with multiple songs in the charts at the same time in 2009. Kay suggested it might have been Elvis and we all thought that was possible so that's what we went with. Paul advised he had several answers and read some out. He then wanted to know who had put Elvis, we cheered and he said you'd be wrong it was Michael Jackson. We should have realised that, as 2009 was the year he died. Aaarrrggghhhh! Anyway the next question we delayed our cheer til we were sure we were right and he made fun of that too. So the next question we guessed on we put 'or something else' in brackets after our answer and yes he laughed at that too! We didn't do too badly overal, scoring just 3 or 4 behind the winners but we had a lot of laughs. There was a team sitting next to us that were taking it very seriously and barely smiled throughout, which just seemed to make us sillier!

After the quiz we had hot chocolate and tea with Mike and Janet then headed back to the cabin for the night.
